Published

On 5–7 August, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard is visiting Brazil and Colombia. During the visit, Ms Malmer Stenergard is meeting with government representatives in the region and attending the presidential inauguration in Colombia.

“In a turbulent world, Sweden’s ties to countries in Latin America are increasingly important. We have extensive interests in the region and several close cooperation partnerships that we want to strengthen, including with Brazil and Colombia. The visit provides an opportunity to raise the importance of support to Ukraine with my Latin American colleagues,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.

Firstly, Ms Malmer Stenergard is visiting Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, where she is meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira, among others. The visit is an opportunity to highlight this year’s celebrations of 200 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Brazil.

Ms Malmer Stenergard is then travelling to Cali in Colombia where the inauguration of the country’s new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, is taking place. In conjunction with the visit, Ms Malmer Stenergard will have bilateral meetings with her counterparts in the Colombian Government. The visit underlines the strong bilateral relations between Sweden and Colombia.
